What is a Pulmonologist?

Pulmonologists treat ailments of the lungs and respiratory system, such as asthma, pneumonia, tuberculosis, complicated chest infections and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases including emphysema.

What is Pulmonary Critical Care?

Pulmonary Critical Care is a specialty field of medicine that works with patients who have complex or serious breathing issues, including those who require ventilator support. A Pulmonary Critical Care Physician will typically work with patients who are recieving care in an in-patient hospital Intensive Care Unit or ICU.

Who Requires Pulmonary Critical Care Support Services?

Patients who have critical respiratory conditions can occassionally experience times when their bodies cannot function on their own. These patients may require support from specialized equipment, like a ventilator.

When do I need a Pulmonologist?

Typically, your Primary Care Physician will refer you to a Pulmonologist if you have uncontrolled respiratory symptoms. A Pulmonologist is needed in cases of pneumonia, asthma, certain cases of sleep apnea, tuberculosis, emphysema and any other complicated chest based infection or cancer. Be sure to discuss options with your PCP if you are experiencing any of the following:
